History of Business – Bray Trucking, Inc. (BTI)

Founded in 2000 and headquartered in beautiful Redwood Valley, Bray Trucking Inc. is a successful, certified, second-generation, mother-to-daughter-owned Northern California trucking company that hauls materials and fills jobs all over the region and state.

Tammy Bray’s beginnings were humble. Seeking a new career, she started by obtaining a Class A license and driving until she had enough money to get a loan to buy her first truck. She drove until she could hire a driver and eventually more trucks and drivers. At first, she hauled water in the remote Emerald Triangle before later adding gravel and other construction materials, as well as expanding coverage areas. Tammy earned her WOSB/DBE certifications through the DOT and CPUC. Competing as a woman in a non-traditional industry required all hands on deck, so other members of the family pitched in, including Tammy’s husband Terry and her daughter Kayte, who would grow to inherit operations.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Kayte apprenticed into the role with hands-on experience. She earned her Class A license and drove trucks for her mom. Beyond helping her mom’s business, Kayte worked for the local utility company, often as the only woman on remote field crews. Her perspective as a former grade school teacher brings valuable traits of patience and kindness to her trucking operations, and her experience working with a local utility company helped her gain insight into the administrative operations of entities who solicit bids from trucking companies.

After more than two decades of successful years building her business through pluck and vision, Tammy handed over the reins to Kayte in 2022. As Kayte embraced the role of owner-operator, she mastered the office logistics segment of the business and adopted all the various marketing, HR, and project management roles of a successful business owner.

Fueled by a vision to successfully expand her 100% woman-owned operations, she has bolstered her team and is poised to help its partners succeed all over the state. We will be celebrating 25 years in business January 2025.
